LARPS stands for LoRa Automatic Reporting Packet System. This system makes use of the advanced LoRa (Long Range) CSS (Chrip Spread Spectrum) mode created by Semtech. LARPS research is based on DCC (Digital Control Channel), an experimental digital protocol to coordinate amateur radio resources that was developed in the 1990s.

While intended to be the "killer app" for HamShield: LoRa Edition, it is also compatible with a wide variety of hardware from various suppliers.
