We'll need some sounds for our player:

  • Cart collisions grunt sound
  • Good swing vocalisation (non-verbal)
  • Bad swing vocalisation (non-verbal)
  • Ball run over vocalisation (non-verbal, to also serve as an audio cue for when the player's ball has been run over offscreen)
  • Jeering (non-verbal)
  • Winning cheer (non-verbal, end of game, ball in hole)
  • Footfall/jumping sound for transitioning from/to cart mode

Might be able to get these if I get to the golf course...

I'm trying to get a start on Male1 voices except there's a lot of people running around my house at the moment. I don't think they'd appreciate grunting and screaming with no context.

What should we use for file names? char(character)(no)_(type)(no) (example: charMale1_pain1)? How many sounds per sound type for randomisation?

I'll start recording sounds as soon as I possibly can.

That file name proposal sounds good to me :D

Maybe do two variants of each and we'll use that to deal with randomisation. We'll want to come back and fully flesh out our sounds and stuff after when we look at doing a polish pass and have a better feel for what the game feels like it needs that we haven't already addressed.

Ok, finished cutting up two sets of player sounds

First player is "Derrick" downloadable here... http://we.tl/kEFEgbx0L3

2nd player is "Jose" downloadable here... http://we.tl/6tmjsrOBMf

Derrick sounds a bit Australian, while Jose sounds a bit American with some swagger

Should hopefully have golf cart and golf hitting sounds cut up tomorrow night

Do you need female player sounds? I can definitely do those if you need them.

I went ahead and made some, using the ones studiokraze made as a guide. Let me know if you need more, and I'll be happy to do them, as these were a lot of fun to do. :)

Do you need commentary voice overs?

Do you need commentary voice overs?

There aren't any current plans to add that feature, but feel free to pop it in the Longer Term Ideas wiki page :)

I thought the idea with character vocalizations was that they would be nonsensical/playful sub-verbal noises mostly. To promote free localization and so forth.

And to that end, would the direction likely be along the lines of Charlie Brown adults "Bwa Bwa Bwa", Tazmanian Devil "Eeee Bwahh Pbtttt", more like Swedish Chef "Borshky Bork Bork", or maybe (my personal favourite) Grammalot Here's a Video about it?

Also, a different technique could be applied to each different character included (Tim,Dave,Anna, etc).

Anyhow, just some thoughts. I like what's being done, and would be pleased to pitch in.

This is where I'd like to see us go at least for the short term.

And to that end, would the direction likely be along the lines of...

Whatever people are keen to do! I think we'll probably end up allowing for players to select their own voices to use (a-la Worms), so diversity here isn't necessarily going to cause any problems :)

Alright, I've knocked a few of these out.

I've named them after the DF folks, but they don't need to be attached specifically or anything. Just was as good a selection of names as any. They aren't matched in personality or anything either... at least not overly :-) [though there are a few particular bits] And, they certainly aren't impressions by any stretch of the imagination.

In this bunch: Tim, Patrick, Brad, Pen, Greg, Anna, John, Derek, and Risse.

If these are the kind of thing that people like, I can do some more for perhaps; Andy, Brandon, Dave, Isa, JP, Lee, Levi, Raz (anyone else that's slipping my mind maybe).

I think I got the naming convention correct. These are also very RAW, as I figured you'd want whatever effects (reverbs, etc) to be handles in engine... but I can do whatever makes sense.

Alright! I put down a few more sets. This time; Dave, Raz, Lee, and Brandon.

I'm also not sure if you want these in OGG or some other form than WAV.

Can Cheese, or someone, pull these newest files in. I'm sorry I don't know how to do it myself... honestly using this Github is kinda intimidating. ;-)

I've added them to the assets repo @OrbitalBliss
