This is the hybrid communication format Wiki page.

Background

The hybrid rocket engine has an involved electrical control system which must be able to perform functions such as filling the oxidizer tank, venting the plumbing in emergencies, arming, igniting the igniter, opening the fire valve, etc.

All of these control functions must be commanded by a pad operator, who must be several thousand feet away from the hybrid engine and its control system at the time of issuing a command for safety reasons. As such, InSpace has chosen to issue commands over a long range network connection (at the time of writing, using Ubiquity airMAXes, but the network hardware is not important for this spec).

Why the spec

The communication specification in this repository provides a specific, agreed upon standard for the different parts of the control system to communicate with each other. This is necessary for being able to write software for the control system which will be compatible with different control system software modules.
