Translating Cambria Linux

There are actually 2 things that you can translate: the README and the scripts.

README

Note: This part is work in progress, this part can change dramatically. We don't really support multilingual README for now, but PRs are still welcome!

Initialisation

First fork the repository on your own account.

Then create a branch called l10n/readme-<lang> (e.g. l10n/readme-de). Now duplicate the english version (or one you are more familiar with).

Translation

Now you can start translating the README. Try to make the least typo errors and respect the original organization and meaning of the file.

When you are done on your work, you can commit it, but be careful that your commit name looks like this: docs(l10n): add <lang> translation of README (e.g. docs(l10n): add de translation of README).

Scripts

Initialisation

First fork the repository on your own account.

Note: It is recomanded to clone your fork on your computer

Then create a branch called l10n/<script>-<lang> (e.g. l10n/install-de). Now create the directory po/<lang> (e.g. po/de) and create a directory named LC_MESSAGES into it. Copy the .pot file named <script>.pot into po/<lang>/ and name it <script>.po. (e.g. po/de/install.po)

Open the file and modify the first lines that are listed:

13. "Last-Translator: FULL NAME <EMAIL@ADDRESS>\n" (e.g. "Last-Translator: Babilinx <[email protected]>\n")
14. "Language: \n" (e.g. "Language: de\n")

Translation

Now start translating what's in msgid into msgstr. NEVER MODIFY msgid

Here some examples on special cases:

Here, you have to keep "" on the first line of msgstr (like in msgid), but also to keep the line length the same as msgid:

"Laissez-vous guider et vous aurez une Gentoo entièrement fonctionelle ! "

Here you have to enter the variable on the right place to make it have sens: Never change it's name, else it will no longer work

msgid "All content from $DISK will be loose, continue?"
msgstr "Tout le contenu de $DISK va être perdu, continuer ?"

When you have done your work, commit it like the following: feat(l10n) add <lang> translation of <script> (e.g. feat(l10n): add de translation of cambria_center).
