Installation
Note
If you are using an older computer, please make sure you have read the Driver Compatibility page before installing Sodium. It contains important instructions on how to prevent crashes and other performance problems which are commonly caused by out-of-date graphics drivers.
For the easiest installation, we recommend using the Modrinth Launcher. It's lightweight, reasonably quick, and only takes a few clicks to set up. Once you have it installed, you can install Sodium (and other mods) by simply searching for them within the application.
If you are looking for an OptiFine-like experience, we can recommend using the Additive mod pack, which includes extra mods that enable additional customization and special resource pack features.
Like most mods, Sodium depends on Fabric Loader to load itself. Because there are so many different Minecraft launchers, it is generally difficult for us to provide instructions for each one. The Fabric Wiki is an excellent resource if you need help with installing the Fabric Loader.
Once you have installed the Fabric Loader, you can then download Sodium from our official Modrinth page. Keep in mind that you should download the version of Sodium which is listed as compatible with your desired version of Minecraft.
For most people, installing the mod is as simple as dropping it into your mods folder (which is located in the .minecraft
folder your launcher uses). But if you need more help, you can look at these instructions.
