Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I have searched the existing issues.

Please describe the feature you have in mind and explain what the current shortcomings are?

It may be unknown for many, but loading an Alembic that has normals written along (writeNormals enabled in AYON; which is the equivalent of noNormals disabled in Maya; both the default behavior) upon loading will have locked normals. Even if the original file from which it was extracted did not have locked normals.

This may have unknowingly the side effect that rig deformations applied to the mesh may have normals that do not deform along.

How would you imagine the implementation of the feature?

Add a note about Alembic behavior. Maybe even providing an explicit longer example in an expandable section to really get through the bottom of it.

Are there any labels you wish to add?

  • I have added the relevant labels to the enhancement request.

Describe alternatives you've considered:

Just live with the fact that this unfortunately is Maya AbcImport behavior.

Additional context:

Discussed on AYON discord here and in private client channels on AYON discord here
