Hello ggText Team,

I was wondering if you would like to use my hexagon logo for your package for free. Your package lacks a hexagon logo and wanted to offer my help. My name is Zane Dax.

If you do use this or want to have modifications done let me know. Thanks

Hello, thanks for reaching out. The main reason why there isn't a ggtext logo is that I haven't had an inspired idea for an appropriate logo. I tend to be picky and have high standards for logos.

I'm open to community contributions for a logo, but this one isn't it. Here are a few specific comments:

  • The package name is misspelled.
  • The package name has bad kerning.
  • The background is too dark.
  • The combination of black and dark gray creates a sad look.
  • The positioning of the smaller text items looks arbitrary. There's no obvious alignment that has been applied.
  • Even though this package is about text, the logo has too much text in my opinion.

For your reference, here are a few logos I've drawn. You could see if you can come up with something that broadly fits.

I've never actually used the gridtext logo because I wasn't sure I was entirely happy with it, though it's probably fine.

Hello, okay, sounds fair,

I was taking a shot in the dark. I added kerning of 10% and I thought it was ggText but clearly was incorrect.

I will give it one more try but as you say you are picky, at least I tried.

I was thinking more something along these lines, though I'm not sure this is it yet. A different font might work better.

What about something that more emphasizes the major features that the package makes easier, like bold, italics, and coloring of text? (These are some quick demos I threw together; the outline of the hex should be thicker). I picked a fairly simple but fun typeface (Segoe Print with custom kerning), set gg in italics, text in bold, and letters in colors. I liked the sort of schoolhouse vibe that your color choices and pencil font suggested to me, so I ran with that a bit in the second option with an color scheme like a school chalkboard. Could take that even further and add some woodgrain to the border. I can refine this more if you're interested.
