Could you give me some background or an example use case where this would be useful? I could imagine maybe when you're looking at some wide table with 'nowrap' and want to keep one column fixed while scrolling horizontally? In which case I guess you'd want both windows to have 'scrollbind'? Do you have anything concrete in mind?
Also what would the interaction look like? Select a word and split it off to the left or right? Or based on a rectangular selection? Ideas for function names and/or mappings?
For my part, a vertical resize might be more interesting than vertical splits. I imagine doing ctrl-V rectangular select and then typing a keybinding to resize vertically to the selection.
This would be most useful in resizing plugin windows that are taking up extra space (ChadTree and fugitive are the ones I have in mind).
The plugin currently splits only horizontally, it would be nice to allow vertical too.
