I've been using IntelliJ IDEA 2023.1.3 (Community Edition) to develop the plugin. Would love to learn how it behaves with older versions.

I wonder, if all the IDEs update on open, and there are no dependencies, and we don't use any new APIs, wouldn't this look for several versions pretty much the same?

What if you never close your IDE, do we fail? If so, until which version do we work? It's happened to us on VS Code, right?
