A Chinese vlogger stole your code in his sponsored video #23
Comments
He's using your code for commercial purposes without copyright statement, which is a violation of the MIT license, Mr. Here's his profile: 赛博丁真 |
@vietnh1009 Additionally, this individual has a long history of fraud and plagiarism, going back several years. The infringement on your open-source work is by no means an isolated incident. He and his team are repeat offenders. |
I have asked Mr. He. Don't worry.

Hi, thankss you guys for all the support. I wrote a comment on this youtube video, but my comment is removed by him. I do appreciate your effort and kindness |
thank you for letting me know. Try to write a comment on his video, but my comment is removed. But nice to know that there are many people outside standing for the truth like you guys |
I feel sorry for you, can you provide the video link and the content of the comments? Maybe we can make more noise. He has more than 10 million followers, and the video was a commercial, so we want him to pay all the proceeds from that video back to the project.

Thank you, I wrote: Hi guys, |
The video author has apologized yesterday.
We have seen everyone’s discussion about the character conversion program in the comments. The character conversion program we used in our video does is from the open-source project ASCII-generator, with some changes on optimizing the character generation ratio, image cropping method, and parameter passing. The narration at 55 seconds in the video, "So we wrote a software that can convert the color blocks in the preview animation into characters," is wrong, and we sincerely apologize for not pointing this out in the video. The reason this occurred is that I was not rigorous enough when writing the script for the video, did not communicate well with the relevant colleagues, and was unaware that this program was modified from an open-source program, also failing to fulfill my review duties, for which I am truly sorry. We have already updated the video to change the source, modified related descriptions, and added citations, while also conducting an internal review to reflect on the process and issues with the review. We sincerely thank everyone for their supervision. |
The other issues in Chinese created recently are all about this, they are mostly not constructive and have spam comments. You may feel free to close them (and I personally wish so) and leave this one for further discussion and any action you may take in the future. Many people here are also making open source softwares, some like you choose to use licenses such as the MIT license to allow commercial use, and most of us still want to be credited. It is unacceptable for him to remove licenst notice and author name from his video and claim it is an original software. By subscribing to the issue, we want to hear more updates from you. Here's an update for you: he has edited the video on Bilibili, changing the previous claim to “we modified this open source software”. He also added the repo link on the screen (although it seems like a very short transparency animation is applied). A kind reminder for others: Please click the SUBSCRIBE button on the right if you wish to receive any notifications in the future, please do not post comments like "+1" to distribute the thread. |
I am a vlogger from bilibili(a chinese video website just like youtube) |
Thank you everyone for standing for the truth. Honestly, I dont care too much about other people using my code. What I want is, to prevent someone to earn money from others (audience, users, viewers,....) in an inappropriate way (steal other works and use it as a way to earn money from viewers and subscriber) I guess I am the only one who is not Chinese here. Thank you for supporting and updating me. Here is my linkedin, if you guys want to keep contact (https://www.linkedin.com/in/vietnh1009/). I have a small youtube channel, but all content is in Vietnamese so maybe you guys will not care :)) https://www.youtube.com/@vietnh1009 . I will make an youtube video tomorrow to show my viewers and subscribers how Chinese people act when they see sth wrong I will back to Vietnam this December, after spend 9 years studying and working in Germany. I will definitely visit China soon, maybe in 2025. Again, thank you guys so much |
you are so great, bro. Thank you so so much |
hetongxue has been an obnoxious burglar of open-sourced codes, and getting his ways for years. He really deserves ban hammer. I hope this message finds you well, and stay away from all the bothers, take care! |
Hi guys, I want to make a small Youtube video (~3-5 mins) to summarize this story and say thankss to Chinese community. It will be my first, and maybe my last video I speak English. I dont know how to share it to Chinese netizens. Could you guys suggest me on how to share it/where should I share it ? I just want they know that I am aware of their support |
The video orignally did not mention the code source because He Tongxue simply does not know it. This is quite clear a communication problem within his team. It's not about morality. @JackySu Your statement is emotional and is a lie. |
是的,当初那个套壳vscode的IDE,一定是那个企业内部沟通有问题,领导一定不知道,大家都冤枉那个公司领导了。 |
Share on Chinese as main language platform may need to register and may not really to use. The main one is Bilibili which is the Chinese version of YouTube and the origin platform posting the video. If you just share it here and these nice people will help you to share it with Chinese people (they may also make Chinese subtitles)! |
I can help you to translate to Chinese and upload to my channel ! |
Your account was registered 1 hour ago, I have to mention this. 狗儿子1小时前开了个新号来洗地了?赶紧溜撒点回去舔你的何叠,毕竟是主人的任务罢了 |

I am just saying the truth. From your language I can tell that you lose your senses. |

Hello, Thank you so much for sharing your work on GitHub. I’m sorry to see that another vlogger has taken your code and used it in a business video, which is a blatant violation of the MIT license. GitHub is a community built on the principles of openness and respect, and it’s disheartening to witness such behavior. I strongly dislike seeing someone steal the hard work of others. I would encourage you to consider consulting an attorney to explore potential legal actions against this violation. |
Support original authors and open source spirit.Fight against plagiarism. |
|
sure sure, my pleasure. I am writing down the content for the video. I will record, edit, upload the video, then authorize you. Thank you so much |
I support you, brother. You're right, actions that violate open-source agreements should be punished. You're doing a great job |
Because He's apology lacked sincerity, and instead, there were many paid posters in the comment section. He has made a fortune from this. |
In China, stealing code for profit and not following license is very common, and many Chinese developers hate such behavior. |
@vietnh1009 please close this issue, this should be the end. |
You can share it on your own YT cannel, there are lots of Chinese netizen pleased translate and share it on Chinese media platform(on your auth) |

Here is some information that might help clarify your discussions. After reading this, you may form a clearer opinion about is attribution necessary to use the MIT License (rather than MIT-0, a separate license specifically created to remove the attribution requirement from MIT)

Then, HTX should bear a BIGGER social responsibility. So He should NOT make such a big "license violating" error. 所以,何同学需要承担更大的社会责任。所以他不应做出这么大的“违反协议”的错误。 |
haha, this is the kind of cyber violence that's happening. |

我不想only use EN了,直接用说: |
Now that the problem has been solved, it's time to close this issue. |
I suggest you create your own channel and post on it instead of using someone else's, no matter how enthusiastic or willing they are to help you post videos, which may help you avoid some new risks. |
I do believe that the resolution of a case involving a criminal suspect accused of willfully violating a licensing agreement to infringe copyright, as well as the decision on whether to unpin and close this issue, should rest with the copyright holder who has the legal authority to file a complaint—not with a bilibili troll who just Joined 43 minutes ago. Would you agree? @GUHR-SDC |
yes. |
@epcdiy Yes, I think so. Btw Is there anyway I could have your contact (maybe email is the best), before this issue closed ? Dont worry I dont plan to debut in China or sth like that. I just feel that maybe at some point if I want to send any message to Chinese netizens, you would be one of the best middle persons I know |
I have send a email to you! please check out your gmail !( I use the address which in your code!) |
@epcdiy Thank you, I see it |
Please let me have 1 last comment before closing this issue. I, and many Vietnamese netizens are still wondering, how some of you look at the vlogger's video, and at 0:56 you guys know that it is originally my code? I mean, after the header was removed, there is no information about me left. There is even no Vietnamese text there. In short, no hint, no clue at all ! How could you guys find out that the code is originally from my repo? The chance 1 of you saw my code before, and remembered it, is really small @ayyayyayy2002 maybe you could answer ? |
Actually they clone ur repo via |
Emmm they do not use git clone, they just use download zip 😅On Nov 22, 2024, at 18:39, Corgice ***@***.***> wrote:
Actually they clone ur repo via git clone and didn't change the folder name ASCII-generator-master which is obviously a github repo. You can notice that in the orange circle on the image that @ayyayyayy2002 provided.

Dear vietnh1009, Greetings, Regarding the discovery of this repository, it was primarily identified from the Pycharm console in the video of this vlogger, where a directory named “ASCII-generator-master” was visible. The operations were being conducted within the download directory. For this issue , my suggestion is to close it directly and lock the conversation. While the vlogger is indeed at fault, and the intention of this issue was to inform the original creator of this repo, an increasing number of Chinese netizens with no scruples are trying to escalate this into a larger online dispute. This is quite unfortunate, especially as it affects your personal life. Let this quarrel, which should have remained confined to the Simplified Chinese internet, come to an end on this GitHub Issue. I apologize for the intrusion. Yours sincerely, JF Wang |
Thank you everyone again for your supports over the last few day. I will never forget what you guys have done for me, to protect my right as well as this repo. Now I'd like to close this issue. I wish all the best to you guys. We are brothers. Love from Vietnam <3 |
真给中国人丢脸,建议永久封杀,判刑处理 |
@vietnh1009 Sorry to bother you again. If possible, please lock off conversation for this issue to prevent further disputes. |
@YuxiangWang0525 Sure bro. you dont bother me at all :) |
A Chinese vlogger named "老师好我叫何同学" used your code in his sponsored video, which does not violate the MIT license.
However, this vlogger claimed that this project was written by their team themselves, which is unethical.
The sentence "所以我们专门写了一个软件" in the picture means: So we wrote a special software
