When using a joystick, you can only set the speed in positive ranges. When using the keyboard, you are also able to set negative, or reverse speed. The range that is settable in the initial ship is -12 to 0 to 120.
I believe that this equates to -10%, 0 and 100%
This reverse speed is also necessary to complete the training mission from Oswald.
When using the keyboard and joystick together, the joystick throttle overrides the keyboard setting, rendering you unable to make your ship go in reverse.
At the very least, the keyboard setting should take precedent until the joystick throttle is adjusted.
Probably the best would be for the throttle axis to be mapped so that the full range of the throttle is from -10% to 100%, giving you more accurate throttle control in the positive ranges, but still allowing a negative setting.
