according to the docs it should be possible to set another storageclass via the label lagoon.persistent.class in basic-persistent
but it seems to not work, whatever is set in lagoon.persistent.class seems to be ignored

This is probably a mistake in the documentation. The persistent.class feature hasn't worked in kubernetes at all, it only ever worked in the old openshift-build-deploy scripts.
