title: Asking Questions In An Interview
---

## Introduction

Today we're going to dive into an often overlooked part of the job interview. In addition to the interviewer asking you questions, they will also often leave 5 or 10 minutes at the end for you to ask them questions!

The ability to ask insightful questions not only shows your genuine interest in the position but also demonstrates your preparation, critical thinking, and understanding of the company culture. It's also your final opportunity to leave a lasting impression, distinguish yourself from other candidates, and gain valuable insights into the role and the organization.

## Activity

For today's PD, we're going to do some brainstorming on potential questions to ask so that you can start compiling your list of questions! You will also want to adjust your questions as much as possible to the particular position and company, but this will hopefully give you a good starting point.

With your partner, add as many questions as you can to [this](https://jamboard.google.com/d/1OzbCYBtN3qbarWbzHc4WMh5rxdHr7PwmiQdmhPtmOVc/edit?usp=sharing) Jamboard in 10 minutes. When we come back together your instructor will call on folks to share a questions that they particularly like and why they like that question.

Feel free to Google or use the [Key Values Culture Queries](https://www.keyvalues.com/culture-queries) to help you generate questions!

title: Job Hunt Hustle Intro
---

## Introduction

Find job you're interested in, apply to job, interview for job, receive offer: that's the process right? Sometimes that works, but more often than not the path towards a job offer is more winding and involves more "hustle" on your end.

What do I mean by "hustle"? I think of the hustle as putting in extra time and effort to help you stand out in comparison to the other candidates.

There are so many different activities this can include, and by the end of today we will have a list of "Job Hunt Hustle" activities to choose from.

For "Job Hunt Hustle" we are not going to focus on things that help you ace the interview or grow your qualifications. We instead want to focus on things that help you move closer on the path towards jobs you want. Things that that help get your foot in the door and help you stay top of mind to potential employers.

### Examples of Job Hunt Hustle

#### Example 1
[Thoughts from Ian Douglas, a former Turing Instructor](https://twitter.com/iandouglas736/status/1593731985142226944)

#### Example 2
[Thoughts from a LinkedIn Career Coach](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7121159930262261760/)

#### Example 3
A snippet of the path towards Zoe's first development role:

![AppNexus 0](/assets/images/module6/week1/AppNexus0.png)
![AppNexus 1](/assets/images/module6/week1/AppNexus1.png)
![AppNexus 2](/assets/images/module6/week1/AppNexus2.png)

#### Example 4
A snippet of the path towards Zoe volunteering with Code.org for a week while in college (it's definitely a bit embarrassing to look back on my old messages, but I think it's a solid example of thoughtful and genuine persistance paying off):

For additional context Hadi Partovi is the CEO of Code.org, a non-profit that creates coding tutorials for K-12 students and pushes to expand k-12 computer science education. They organize The Hour of Code each December.

![Code.org 1](/assets/images/module6/week1/Code1.png)
![Code.org 2](/assets/images/module6/week1/Code2.png)
![Code.org 3](/assets/images/module6/week1/Code3.png)
![Code.org 4](/assets/images/module6/week1/Code4.png)

Take a look through the above examples as starting points, then with your partner brainstorm ideas for how to "Job Hunt Hustle". Are there any "Job Hunt Hustle" strategies that have worked for you in the past? When we come back together your instructor will call on groups to share out ideas and compile a mega-list of ideas in Slack.

### Conclusion

When talking about hustle, I think it's also important to talk about rest and self care. The job search can be draining and hustling can be exhausting. We need to keep an eye on our wellbeing and ways we can personally rest and refuel.

You'll first have a few minutes to think on your own, then we will discuss in small groups, and finally as a class your thoughts on the following question:

How are you currently feeling about starting the job hunt hustle?

title: Job Tracking Intro - Teal
---

## Introduction

As you continue on with you're job search it's going to be crucial to have some tool for keeping track of all the job you are interested in. If you have a system that already works for you, feel free to keep going with your system. But today we are going to introduce a great tool called [Teal](https://app.tealhq.com/) that has worked well for many Turing students.

One of my favorite parts of Teal is that it has a chrome extension that allows you to easily start tracking a job when you see it on a job board. Other tool I love is that you can add a note to a particular job. This can be useful for tracking who you know or reached out to related to this job or other information.

![Teal Chrome Extension](/assets/images/module6/week1/TealChromeExtension.png)

It also allows you to see all of the jobs you are tracking and keep track of the status for each role, for example, bookmarked, applied or interviewing.

![Teal Screenshot](/assets/images/module6/week1/TealScreenshot.png)

## Your Task

For today's work time, if you already have a job tracking tool that you want to keep using, send a brief description of that tool to your instructors and you can use this time as general job search time. If not, create an account on [Teal](https://app.tealhq.com/) and follow their introductory tour.

Then complete the following tasks:

1. Install the Chrome extension and use it to save a job to Teal.
2. Change the status in Teal for the jobs you have already applied for.
3. Keep exploring Teal and start tracking other jobs you are interested in!
