How to add support for other typefaces? #1345

This project was able to add support for other fonts, but according to this its not possible.

Any suggested fixes?

Apart from arrows, I don’t remember “completely changing how ligatures work” in v4. Arrows were redone, yes, but rest stayed more or less the same?
