<h2>Biography</h2>
<p>
As a visually impaired vocalist and speaker, Katelyn MacIntyre enjoys sharing her inspirational life story and dynamic music which spans many genres with all audiences. She has trained classically in voice for over 17 years including studying at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Canada and in Heidelberg, Germany. She received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Carnegie Mellon University and she earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Biola University Conservatory of Music, graduating summa cum laude, on the Dean’s List each semester, and a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda, Epsilon Kappa Epsilon, and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Societies. A Fulbright Scholar finalist to the United Kingdom in Voice, Katelyn can be heard singing, performing, and recording in German, French, Italian, Czech, Portuguese, Latin, Hebrew, Aramaic, Yiddish, Russian, Spanish, and English. Not limited to one style, she frequently includes jazz and musical theater in her repertoire.
<br /><br />
In summer 2014, Katelyn sang her Austrian debut soloing with the AIMS Festival Orchestra in several venues and cathedrals in and around Graz. At only 19, Katelyn was selected as soprano soloist in her university’s orchestral presentations of Handel’s <span>Messiah</span>. Additionally, she premiered the opera <span>Cold Hands</span> with CMU and Pittsburgh Opera and covered the soprano solos of Mozart’s <span>Requiem</span> with Maestro Manfred Honeck and the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic. She has performed numerous operatic and musical roles including The Countess in <span>Le nozze di Figaro</span>, Beth in <span>Little Women</span>¸ Monica in The <span>Medium</span>, and the Narrator in <span>Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat</span>. She was recently a featured soloist in two shows at Tokyo Billboard Live! Japan sponsored by Fox International. Other memorable performances as a featured soprano soloist include singing for/teaching orphans and at risk youth in Romania, performing with the Phoenix Symphony at the Dodge Theatre, AZ under the direction of Ralph Carmichael, and concertizing in such notable venues as the Kennedy Center (ticketed performance), Union Station (DC), Speyer Cathedral, Heidelberg Völkerkundemuseum (Germany), U.S. Airways Center (AZ), and at Biola University’s Graduation Ceremony for an audience of 8,000 (CA).
<br /><br />
Among her accolades, Katelyn received the 2012-13 Presser Scholarship awarded to one student demonstrating all aspects of excellence in academics, music, and personal character, exhibiting promise in the field of music. She was named a Who’s Who Among Students at American Universities, was a National Federation of the Blind 2014 Scholarship winner, received the Learning Ally National Achievement Award, won the VSA International Young Soloists Award, has been recognized with both an Outstanding Musician Award and Outstanding Music Theory and Aural Perception Award during her education, and has garnered top prizes and scholarships in the US and Canada from competitions such as the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Regionals where she placed 1st in Upper-College Women, the Sweet Adeline’s International Talent Search, and the Peel Music Festival, Ontario, Canada.
<br /><br />
Deeply inspired by the unique blend and cooperative spirit solely achieved through ensemble music, Katelyn has been a member and featured singer in U.S., Canadian, and German choirs, a cappella quartettes and trios for over 15 years. She has performed as featured soloist and soprano in the “MacIntyre Family Singers” quartette on their full length CD and in multiple international vocal tours in Washington DC, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Illinois, Virginia, N. Carolina, and Canada, appearing before audiences of thousands. As a soprano in the esteemed Biola Chorale, Katelyn sang at Carnegie Hall premiering works and conducted by Eric Whitacre, with the Pacific Symphony under Maestro Carl St. Clair, and has been a soloist in many concerts throughout Germany, Czech Republic, and California including the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, St Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and appearing on the Hour of Power at the Crystal Cathedral. At 11, Katelyn auditioned and joined the Scottsdale Community College A Cappella Choir, soloing in 12 of its concerts.
<br /><br />
Recently, Katelyn won the American Idol Experience Finale in Orlando, FL. in addition to making it to the third round of American Idol Season 8, and was featured on international television as the sister of American Idol Finalist Scott MacIntyre. Katelyn and Scott also recorded the first U.S. cover single of the winning Eurovision song “Running Scared.” At 15, Katelyn was chosen to appear in a live televised awards ceremony at the acclaimed Orpheum Theater in Arizona hosted by CNN and Cox Communications. She has been profiled on Global Television Network, national and local television shows, newscasts, PSAs, radio, and print media as vocalist, dancer and horseback rider. Currently, she continues to work as a vocalist and speaker and enjoys sharing her inspirational story and music with conventions, churches, charities, colleges, and special events.
<br /><br />
Music and the performing arts are important priorities in Katelyn’s life and she thoroughly enjoys singing and acting, even though she has been visually impaired since birth. She began piano studies at age 6 and also plays guitar. Further interests include raising and showing poultry and studying exotic chicken breeds, learning foreign languages, volunteering as a docent for the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Arizona, serving as Vice President of the National Federation of the Blind Performing Arts Division, membership in Sigma Alpha Iota, leading worship at churches across the continent, horsemanship, international travel, competing in and teaching Ballroom Dancing and Clogging (a form of dance with roots in Irish and Tap), and skiing with a sighted guide.

Katelyn is very grateful for the many opportunities she has had to speak and perform. She desires to be a strong role model for other young musicians and continue performing, teaching, and speaking for diverse organizations and events in North America and around the world.
