objective: complete novices should be able to familiarize themselves with R

scope: this is a basic course for anybody from the marketing management or marketing analytics programs to get a first glimpse of R.

locations:

principles:

  • targeted at absolute novices
  • use existing material ("curation"), rather than developing new video tutorials
  • assume 100-200 students per year following this class

example things to discuss:

  • quick primer on data, data structure, and why we need data to make better decisions
  • downloading of RStudio, and introduction to interface
  • using R - the very simple steps (e.g., loading data, loading packages, calculating means, etc.)
  • maybe develop one exercise with MC test (pass/fail), where we present students with a marketing data set and they have to do a couple of exercises on it

tips:

  • make use of publicly available courses to follow (e.g., data camp)
  • one notebook, with a marketing application that summarizes the learning with maybe exercises
o "this is a marketing data set with sales on a given day per brand"
o opdracht: load the data, do a t-test
    o calculate means
    o ...
