Postponed to summer 2023 for various reasons. We need more time which we currently do not have so free open source software has to wait a bit longer. |

FYI: At this stage, it makes no sense to publish it before 5.3 LTS. |

The Notification Center has been around for more than 9 years now. I started the project in 2013 as part of working on Isotope eCommerce 2.0.
Ever since then, the code base of the Notification Center has not changed considerably. The PHP world, however, has and so did the popularity of the Notification Center. Today, it's one of the most widely used Contao extensions.
With the release of Contao 5.0 it has become evident that we need to rework the software architecture of the Notification Center completely. There is no point in making it "just compatible". We need to bring it to the next level if we want to make it sustainable for another 9 years.
This announcement is to let the users know that we're currently working on version 2.0 which will be a 100% rewrite from scratch. No extension to the Notification Center will be compatible anymore. The back end, however, will most likely look more or less the same because the concept itself has always worked just fine. You will have to make manual adjustments but an upgrade from version 1.x to version 2.0 will definitely be possible.
Rewriting the Notification Center is a huge task. We're talking three digit numbers of hours needed to develop version 2.0.
Because the Notification Center is a 100% free of charge and open sourced project, we cannot provide any release date just yet. We're currently aiming for spring 2023.
