So I see at least two ways of doing this:

  • Pressing a usable item in the inventory uses it
  • Allow dragging items to action buttons, after which they can be triggered there

I worry a little that the first one may be too easy to trigger accidentally, though I think it would be expected behavior.

Another way would be that single-press selects items, at which point a button appears next to it which has a "Use", "Equip" or "Unequip" label. That would also allow for an "X" or "Drop" button to be added.

I like the last idea and the second bullet point. A simple click would really be too easy to hit accidently i fear... a friend already accidently sold his shortsword :/
