Compatibility with composer-patches 2.0

Are there plans to make composer-patches-cli with composer-patches 2.0?
There is a beta version that can be tested: https://github.com/cweagans/composer-patches/releases/tag/2.0.0-beta1

Currently the version constraint does not allow installing it:

szeidler/composer-patches-cli 1.0.7    requires cweagans/composer-patches (^1.7)

The package was once considered to be moved into cweagans/composer-patches core functionality, so that an additional plugin would not be needed anymore. If we do not see this happening, we could consider working on a 2.x, that supports composer-patches ^2.0. Luckily the API should be much easier to work with now.
