Problem with session management/cart with swell-js library - desperate for help

Hi all, I posted this in the main swellstores discussion group but realised it may be better here - rather than repeat it (or delete and move) this is a summary and if anyone can help, please let me know.

tl;dr - swell-js site having problems with cart not being cleared when user is logged out and then being associated with the next user to log in on that browser, plus a new problem where logging out causes the carts in the admin section to lose association with the customer completely.

I've got to the bottom of this and, although a long reply to my long question, I suggest anyone using the swell-js api reads it because the library does not work as you'd expect and it may be causing you privacy breaches and lost sales through a broken design which means you can lose the ability send abandoned carts. It's in reply to my post in the link in the first message.
