SUSE Studio APIv3 User Feedback

This document presents a summary of user feedback received from Studio API users regarding the expected direction the v3 would take.

The text is anonymized to protect those users' privacy as this is public.

We have at least one heavy user who based their Studio automation on MS Windows. They rely on batch (cmd.exe) scripts driving curl, with the outlook on moving towards PHP or maybe Ruby, still on Windows.

At least one user is not happy about having to query the API to find out the synthetic id of an object to be able to use it; this was mentioned in the context of repositories and overlay files.

There've been no objections against using JSON-based media types. Parsing JSON seems to be as easy--or easier--as parsing POX (Plain Old XML) on all platforms so far.

There've been no objections against embracing Accept-based content negotiation. Users I talked to rely on tools based on their production technologies to "play with" the API: Java programmers use their IDE features, curl(1) users simply use curl.
