Version 8: πŸ’

Changes (since v7):

  • Reverted the thumb keys from triangle formation (v7) back to lower arc (v6). πŸ˜… The new triangle shape is making me feel like the middle upper thumb key is easier to reach than the middle lower thumb key sometimes (especially for TAB), so my thumb's resting home position is slowly drifting toward the center of the nearest two thumb keys in the triangle. πŸ€” I'll try to experiment on my own rather than make a release, in order to avoid affecting everyone --- plus it's painstaking to physically rearrange keys on the keyboard. 😫

Changes (since v6):

  • Shift home row mods are exempted from typing streak timeout for faster activation.
  • Thumb keys use balanced hold-tap mode for faster activation.
  • Symbol layer puts percent on nearest upper and semicolon on furthest lower thumb key.
  • System layer puts HSV on inner fingers, effect/speed on outer, sleep/power vertically stacked.
  • Added 120ms extra delay on pinky finger home row mods.
  • Right hand home row mods now use R* keys (except LALT).
  • Caps Word is now configured to allow dash and numbers.

Hey everyone, a new version 7 of my Glove80 keymap is now ready for the world: πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

Changes (since v6):

  • Thumb keys now form nearest triangle instead of lower arc.
  • Arrow keys are vertically stacked on furthest thumb keys.
  • Layer lock keys are also rearranged accordingly. πŸ‘†

Hey everyone, a new version 6 of my Glove80 keymap is now ready for the world: πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

Changes (since v5):

  • Add "Typing" layer without home row mods to avoid misfires while practicing touch-typing. (NOTE: ⚠️ this layer masks home row mods on all Miryoku layers, so be sure to turn it off after typing your practice.)
  • Add layer locking shortcuts on furthest upper thumb keys + Miryoku thumb keys. To unlock a locked layer, press the pinky shift key on the same hand as the current Miryoku thumb key, or the two furthest upper thumb keys together (if unmapped).
  • Update &lt key-repeat (via double-tap & hold) definition for Miryoku thumb keys: thanks @dankessler for this elegant solution https://discord.com/channels/877392805654306816/937645688244826154/1113260457122332672
  • To enter the typing layer, hold the furthest upper thumb key #1 and then tap the nearest upper thumb key #2. To exit, hold thumb key #1 again and tap its twin on the other half of the keyboard.

Hey everyone, a new version 4 of my Glove80 keymap is now ready for the world: πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

Changes (since v3):

  • Don't mirror lower thumb key on nearest upper one anymore. 🫰 I found it unpleasant to shift my palm up to reach the nearest upper thumb key compared to stretching my thumb out to hit the furthest lower thumb key, even though it's technically a longer distance from my thumb's home position (on the nearest lower thumb key). Somehow my hands just want to stay down on the palm rest while my fingers reach everything on the Glove80.
  • Put arrow keys on nearest upper thumb keys for convenience. ⏫ I realized the importance of having arrow keys on the base layer (per https://discord.com/channels/877392805654306816/1112303407336804362/1112768634314555504) even if they're just there as a fallback to help folks transition over to using the Miryoku cursor layer's home row arrows.
  • Increase quick-tap-ms to 175ms to avoid same-hand misfires.
  • Symbol layer: prevent &trans for unused keys on left hand.
  • Symbol layer: put *.* on upper thumb keys for piano swipe.
  • Symbol layer: add easier ~/ on Glove80 (corners too hard).

I hope this makes it easier (and less weird! πŸ‘½) for newcomers to try out. Cheers.

Hey everyone, a new version 3 of my Glove80 keymap is now ready for the world: πŸ’

Changes (since v2):

  • Select Word macros: quicker, more atomic, less keystrokes. πŸͺ„ It's responsive now, as you'd expect.
  • Symbol layer: move .* to upper thumb keys; put ` on index. :fingers_crossed: I got weary of hitting F1 by accident on the Glove80 while aiming for backtick on the top left corner.

Things are pretty stable now, so this will hopefully be the last update I publish in a while. πŸ₯² Cheers.

Hey everyone, a new version 2 of my ZMK keymap is now ready for the world: πŸ’

Changes (since v1):

  • Mirror furthest lower thumb key to nearest upper thumb key. 🫰 I'm trying this out as an alternative to extending my thumb all the way out to reach the furthest lower thumb key, similar to how I used to lay out these keys on my past Dactyl Manuform 5x6_5 keyboard (which had 5 keys per thumb cluster: 3 on the upper arc and 2 on the lower arc).
  • Add separate select/extend actions for word/line selection. πŸͺ„ I've approximated Pascal Getreuer's famous "Select Word" QMK macro with separate select/extend word/line actions using individual ZMK macros. :nerd: It's actually handy this way because repeated &select_word jumps to the next adjacent word for the initial selection.
