Selecting asset images in grid layout differs from list layout. Bug or intended?

I'm new to Statamic and this behavior caught me out.

I have an asset field with only one asset selectable, and one asset is already selected. When I bring up the asset selector in grid view I can't select a different asset without first deselecting the current asset. I wasn't expecting it to work like that and I ended up thinking something was broken. However, list view works as expected.

Is this something you would consider refining?

This has definitely caught me (and clients) out a bunch of times - more of an annoyance or inconsistency than a bug. At the very least the behavior should probably be consistent across the different views - even if the grid view is sorta proto-checkbox-ish. For me most asset fields I make are limited to a single asset, so it comes up a lot.

Personally I would suggest, when an asset field is limited to one asset, then it lets you select one asset (without having to unselect the previous asset). 👍 It shouldn't take multiple clicks to achieve what is clearly and contextually an operation to change the selected asset. For asset fields with multiple assets selected the current logic works well.

Just to add to this, it's really easy to end up in a situation where you have an asset selected but in a different folder. There is feedback in the UI that says "1 item selected" but clicking on it doesn't actually take you to the selected item.
