Greentrack's inspiration came from me seeing that many environmental organizations and charities do not have centralized platforms for individuals to track their donations, whether it is donating their time through volunteering or money. Greentrack hopes to drive people to support more environmental charities and bridge the gap between charities and individuals by using a research method by showing them directly what kind of impact they are having on causes that need their support while incentivizing them to give more to environmental causes that need it.
Greentrack is a web application with a few core features. First, there is the donation feature where individuals can find environmental causes to donate to and them effectively donate to that cause through a safe and secure payment portal. They can also fundraise for charities they own/created or charities they care about. Next is the volunteering platform. The volunteering platform also shows volunteering opportunities for environmental NGOs and a volunteer log which outlines a user's total hours. This is all put together by the centralized Dashboard which uses advanced data visualization techniques to show donation, fundraising, and volunteering amounts in an engaging and visually appealing way. There is also a level system in each of these categories, incentivizing users to give more to causes that need it.
Greentrack was built on HTML, Bootstrap, and CSS for the front end and Javascript for the backend. Firebase was used for authentication.
The learning curve associated with web programming was difficult and a lot of initial time was spent reading and debugging rather than coding.
I am proud of the dashboard page due to its clean look and concise data visualization.
This was my first web application project so I learned a ton about web programming and web interfaces.
I hope to use Greentrack's leveling system to give prizes to users for their efforts and also directly reach out to larger NGOs and partner with them to integrate their events and fundraisers with our platforms. Additionally I hope to find a way to incentivize climate change education and direct awareness through the platform sometime in the future.
