As discussed in #1567 (comment)

test_populate_mosaic_basic_single_exposure and test_populate_mosaic_basic_different_observations both generate wcses and only use the array_shape to construct an output model which then is updated with blended metadata from several models.

Investigate if hard-coding the array_shape would simplify and speed up these tests.
