Date Start Stop Activity Comments
17/03/21 10:00AM 12:00PM Read spec read the assignment specification
for the first time. took some notes
about girt-functions and assumptions.
asked my tutor for clarification
on the tree structure of directories
and files.
30/03/21 12:00pm 2:00PM Coding implemented girt-init functionality
girt-init and initialising .girt - index - and
and girt-add commit repo. implemented basic add
functionality without any error checking
and testing.
passed autotests for init.
31/03/21 9:00PM 11:30PM Coding and finished implementing girt-add and
debugging started debugging. files were not
girt-add added correclty. found issue the way
i was addressing their path using cp.
Issue solved.
passed autotests for init and add.
01/04/21 5:30PM 8:00PM Coding and implemented commit -m. used the reference
debugging implementation to understand the behavior
girt-commit of girt-commit. debugged halfway through
commit numbers are not working as they should be.
01/04/21 10:30PM 1:00PM debugged fixed commit numbers issue. forgot to account
girt-commit for log.txt in commit directories.
had problems copying contents of index into commit
repos. after researching, used cp -r for this purpose.
passed autotests for commit in subset 0.
02/04/21 11:00PM 1:30PM Coding implementing girt-log was fairly quick and easy. just
girt-log and had to read from log.txt and sort the file numerically.
girt-show implemented basic functionality of girt-show without any
error checking.
02/04/21 4:30PM 6:30PM Coding and used the reference implementation to
debugging understand girt-show messages. coding this
girt-show this bit was straightforward. passed autotests
for subset 0.
03/04/21 12:00PM 2:30PM Coding and spend a lot of time thinking I need to
debugging implement commit -a from scratch. realised after
commit -a -m had to write only 10 lines of code to
and girt-rm add the tracked the files and call the function
itself again without -a option.
started implementing girt-rm basic functionalities.
03/04/21 4:00PM 7:00PM Coding and implemented girt-rm. the code was too buggy.
debugging spent a lot of time debugging.
girt-rm I realised that I had not understood how girt-rm
works under different circumstances. failed autotests.
03/04/21 8:00PM 11:00PM understanding spent some time with the reference implementation
girt-rm to understand girt-rm. took some notes for different
situations in girt-rm. deleted my girt-rm code fully
since it had a lot of bugs and decided to start over.
04/04/21 11:00AM 1:00PM Coding and I started writing girt-rm with plan this time. was able
debugging to code and debug fairly quickly since I had much clearer
girt-rm understanding of this function. passed autotests.
04/04/21 5:00PM 9:00PM Coding and finished implementing quickly. but the code again
debugging was too buggy. spent quite a lot of time fixing the bugs.
girt-status spent 2 hours only on one single autotest that girt-status
was failing. found out I was using exit instead of break
in one of my if statements. noticed missed an important
condition for girt-commit and it was causing my girt-status
to fail. Fixed all issues. autotests passed.
05/04/21 11:00AM 3:00PM writing test wrote test 10 test scripts testing
scripts different functionalities with different
conditions. picked up some minor bugs along the way!
05/04/21 5:30PM 8:00PM commenting and added comments to my codes for better readability.
cleaning up did minor refactoring to improve readability and
maintainability.
