"Bricked" in quotes because it seems that is what's happened but not certain.

Model: Technicolor DJA0231
Firmware: 18.1.c.0462-950-RB

  1. Successfully gained root via the "tch-exploit-win.exe" method
  2. Connected to router via Wi-Fi, router had internet connection out via WAN port.
  3. SSH'd into the device and ran the curl script, after which it was suggested that I run the 'set-optimal-bank-plan' script which I did.
  4. This appeared to have completed successfully, it displayed a message such as "Operation complete" in a green box that also mentioned something about a crash plan but then lost the console prompt. Wi-Fi connection had been lost.

Router now doesn't boot. On startup, the power light is solid white for a few moments before flashing white. Have tried hard resetting using a paperclip and power cycling several times. It's not assigning an IP address through a LAN port and I'm not able to connect to it through the WAN port by setting laptop's Ethernet IP and Gateway to '58.162.0.1'.

Any suggestions?

I recovered from this by reflashing the firmware following these instructions:

https://hack-technicolor.readthedocs.io/en/stable/Recovery/#bootp-flashing

Gained root once more, connected to the internet and this time it auto-downloaded and installed a much newer firmware version! Luckily this version was one of the last couple that could be rooted so I did it again then successfully ran the tch-unhide scripts.

I think the issue I had originally was that I had left it connected to the internet while running the 'set-optimal-bank-plan' script. It was probably trying to install a new firmware simultaneously. I should have disconnected it from the internet immediately after downloading the tch-gui-unhide scripts, which is what I did the final time.

This would have been my suggestion.

following these instructions:

I wrote these step-by-step instructions to simplify the hack-technicolor procedure, deal with multiple operating systems, and to make sure that the internet was not reconnected until after the device was hardened.

I agree.

Anyway, I am very glad that you worked out how to recover it.
