In two scenarios, we create "placeholder" units:

  • where we know from the structure of a security or defence force that a unit should exist, but we don't yet have a source to evidence it.
  • where we know a unit has a superior/subordinate unit of a particular type, but we don't know specifics.

Here, for example:

We handle sourcing for these units using a dummy source (access point ID: f93f5cb7-0e67-4b70-863f-c91c783988c3):

There are a couple of other dummy sources too, which handle different cases.

I don't think these needs to appear in the "sources" table for each record. @tonysecurityforcemonitor - what's your take on this?

I actually like having the placeholder "source" in the list - I think it helps hammer home that this is a unit that we've created to have the hierarchy represented. I say keep it :)

Should we improve the message so it makes more sense as a "Title"? Something like:

"Placeholder source: The datapoint to which this source is applied is a placeholder. This means that it represents a link in the hierarchical structure of this branch of the security or defence force for which Security Force Monitor does not have a direct source but research shows is likely to exist."
