Notes & Settings, Interim Note Changes files

scrod edited this page Sep 13, 2010 · 4 revisions

These two files constitute the authoritative record of which notes exist in Notational Velocity, and should never be removed from the notes folder.

In backing up Notational Velocity, these files should always be preserved.

Notes & Settings

This file is the effective notes “database”. It holds all Simplenote and text file metadata, styles, tags, and per-database settings. It is re-saved periodically and upon quitting, if changes were made.

Interim Note-Changes

This is Notational Velocity’s write-ahead log file. As notes are edited, changes are appended to it, guaranteeing durability in the event of a crash. It is removed automatically upon successfully writing the Notes & Settings file.
