I want to find my nv notes. have tried all the suggestions to find~/Library/Preferences/NotationalDatabase.blor
but I cannot find it. Am using mohave. Also my husband had his hd renewed by apple and Big Sur was installed. NV was not reinstalled. He went to an external bu drive and would like his former nv notes restored to new system. He or I cannot find his backups for NV anywhere. I used to be able to back up NV to a folder in my documents but cannot find a way to do that any more. PLEASE CAN YOU HELP? I found earlier issues about this but that was closed a long time ago. I have written to the author of NV but no response.

Your notes are stored in a folder named “Notational Data” inside the ApplicationSupport folder, inside the user Library folder which is often hidden. Please read the wiki pages.

I finally found that folder!! Still does not bring in my notes. I took my notes and added them to the folder.
They show up but still cannot save them. I open NV and none of my previous notes show up.
The only notes in there are the one that come with the app when it it new. The only way I see my notes is to choose them in prefs, use text file or html text, and then they show up but as I said I cannot keep them there and can not save them. What else can I do?

I have an older computer. I can pull up older nv notes there. but they are really old. I need my newer ones. I tried to get them from my back up drive in the library but maybe they were over written because so far they are coming up 0. There is another folder just says something about changes and it is all in code. Maybe I should take that one out?

Try showing hidden files in the Notational Data folder, and renaming the newest invisible file to “Notes & Settings” (make sure NV isn’t open).

I don’t have time to provide detailed technical support.

just saw your note. Thanks. What I have done is import older back up notes to NV and that seems to work. If I find hidden files will that have updated files from 2020-21? what is in their now are the new setting and a file called Interim Note-Changes. Is that one important? I'll see if I can find out how to find hidden files if there are any. Importing the older files I had fro, 1026 to about 2018 maybe was a real pain. they import by today's date and first line of the note. So I have spent hours redoing the names of each note!

Wow! Thanks for letting me know. I found a bunch of hidden files.. I opened one but they are in code. there are some current ones but do not know if those are ones I put in today or earlier in the year. What do I do with them ? How do I read them? Should I take out the current settings files for NV (for now) and import the hidden files? Then what do I do in settings to made them visible? Sorry this is taking up time but I have spent all day on this!!
