Files like https://github.com/rust-lang/www.rust-lang.org/blob/master/locales/en-US/privacy.ftl contain lots of super long content. I think this is very unfriendly to translation for several reasons:

  • it takes a lot of time to translate and review a single piece, making it harder to parallelize and hard to allocate time,
  • Pontoon UI isn't particular good at translating long pieces (as its input is horizontal not vertical comparison), which means you may have to carefully ensure that you are looking at the right location when translating,
  • any small changes to a single piece of content may invalidate the whole translation and require a non-trivial rework.

I think it would be much easier for translators if those content can be split into multiple pieces, ideally one paragraph each.

Any update on this? I think there are still quite a few large text pieces.

In general I don't think folks are actively working on the website beyond basic maintenance right now
