What about WPML / multilanguage?

Installed this module on our multisite and it is working! - Thank you very much for this.

One problem we are facing is when using this plugin with a multilanguage setup:
The network wide menu doesn't get translated but stays in the default language.

Not with this plugin. You would need something quite a bit more elaborate. If you look at the code ( https://github.com/rrennick/network-wide-menu/blob/master/ra-network-wide-menu.php ), you'll see it's functionality is very simple.
