And I'd like to know what the bricking danger is in the first place. Is that a generic warning, or is there actually a decent chance of bricking when just using the basic features?

I have tried with the 1.7.2.3 and the push templates functionality does not work, because it does not update the json file. After I have updated the json file, the templates showed up. I had used the info from this link to edit the files https://remarkablewiki.com/tips/templates
