Hello!
I'm thinking about installing chrx on my Lenovo 500e Second Gen, and I'd like to keep my files/apps/extensions, etc (I can't exactly make a backup), but before I do, I just want to be 101% sure about a couple of things;

  • Does following these steps powerwash the device and/or erase the files, etc. that are already on my instance of CrOS, and
  • can I create a dual-booting environment from an external drive?

Thanks for reading!

#!!!DATA LOSS WARNING!!!

Following the chrx install steps will trigger a Powerwash when you switch to Developer mode, AND a forced recovery equivalent to a Powerwash because it resizes the data partition.

Make a backup of your important files to Google Drive or a USB before you switch to Developer Mode (which also triggers a Powerwash) and even if you are already in Developer Mode running chrx for the first time will resize the data partition forcing a "repair" which is equivalent to a Powerwash. The Linux OS won't be installed until the second time you run Chrx after the "OS Repair".
