Status updates

• [on track] Typescript & Codegen

  • Types are moved to be collocated
    • Feedback on concerns to automation
    • Flow to typescript project is stopped
    • Codegen
      • Several PRs came from Microsoft for added support for interface and more compelx primtive types
      • We are adding support for components with custom state to be able to migrate to new architecture.
      • Should be landing in codegen in 0.81

• [investigation] Debugging

  • Investigation phase
    • Connected with VSCode team as we are investigating to build

• [in progress] CI & E2E

  • Callstack and Wix interested in improving e2e testing
  • We are looking to end of October to fully define the stack we will use for CI, that is based on Jest E2E.
  • Callstack has kindly decided to provide us with QA engineers, who will sue RN tester
    • Callstack engs will prepare draft PRs against the repo
    • Then on october we will decide setup will be done on the repo
    • Once setup is fully done by January.
    • Callstack engineers will provide rotational

  • Team landed big diff in Metro. React team is working towards completing this by the end of the 2022

• [in progress] Monorepo

  • Monorepo work RFC: react-native-community/discussions-and-proposals#480 (RFC: React Native as a monorepo discussions-and-proposals#480)
  • React team is working on unblocking PRs submitted by the community, at the moment issues are related to differences in internal vs oss infra, and team’s bandwidth is causing slow progress on this

Open Discussion:

• There is another RFC for artefact storing - where to store them I did not recieve feedback there, there is a working prototype, it starts to be critical.
  • Take a look, RN test app might be impacted by this change
  • RFC: RFC: out-of-NPM package solution for React Native Artifacts discussions-and-proposals#508
• In 0.70 we rolled out Hermes as default engine for React Native, our whole debugging story is a bit weak, we are in situation where were not able to answer to github questions, we need to improve our story for debugging.
• What is the status of Flipper?
  * Flipper issues within Meta - not integrated environment
  * Flipper issues within Amazon and other partners
  * Is there a way we can fund Flipper work to improve RN support?
  • Alternatives :
    • Reactathron from InfiniteRed - is the most polished alternative to Flipper
    • React Native debugger is the other alternative
    • Planning to use Chrome developer tools with Hermes
    • Integrated debugging experience within VS Code
