• [Alex] Presenting status of new debugging experience for 0.73
  • Summary
    • We will be launching the new debugger experience experimentally, as an opt-in: yarn react-native start --experimental-debugger (Add --experimental-debugger-frontend flag, restore 0.72 flow as base facebook/react-native#40766).
    • This is because we want a meaningful quality bar before we ship to everyone by default, even if the net experience is better than Flipper debugging today.
      • In particular, we identified two blocking bugs (in addition to unknown bugs):
        • Crash on paused debugger
        • Interactively setting a breakpoint doesn't work after a reload
      • These issues are targeted to be fundamentally fixed with our future work, but this requires investment later this year/next year — which we are committed to.
    • What we are still targeting for 0.73:
      • ✅ [Experimental] New 1-click debugger flow, "j" to debug, and customised RN frontend
      • ✅ Hermes background console logs.
      • ✅ New debugging docs.
      • ✅ Remote JS debugging deprecation.
      • ✅ Flipper native code deprecation (no change/risk to prevent removal in 0.74).
    • New: The source for our Chrome DevTools fork!
