A web forum is helpful as it provides tailored discussions and topics that both promotes RChain in Africa markets and provides basic, less complex and very complex documentation that accomodates the needs of both newbies and established members..

I acknowledge the fact that RChain already has a blog and chat mediums for discussions but a web forum that is tailored for Africa is still needful in an effort to penetrate the African market.

Tasks to be done

  • Create and design website

  • Create a Facebook Page

  • Create a Twitter Handle

  • update discussions and forum topics

  • Get the domain name rchain.africa

  • Upload the website

  • Engage the users with useful content

*Estimated Timeline Required to Complete the Task: 3 weeks (to complete tasks but continuous maintenance and update is required)
*Measure of Completion: Forum is live and functional
*Estimated budget: $4000

The forum designed by @David405, @Ojimadu and I would be a point of contact for the spread of Rchain in Africa.

Since the issue is 50% complete, I feel it should carry a $2000 budget

@David405... Great job! I'm looking around the site. Must commend you for a job well done. I would also be adding some fascinating RChain articles that people would consider interesting to read. Kudos once again!

I added the two more objectives to the task. Creating a facebook channel & Twitter Channel. I've also created the Facebook and a Twitter Channel, looking forward to integrate them with the new web forum.

It's pretty good to have a web forum for conversation and also educating the public about the cooperative. @David405 The link to the web forum has got a bug or an error, it does not load. I suppose this is the link www.talk.i.ng. Can you look it up.

Hey guys, this forum is live, fully functional and bug free (at least none that has come to my notice), lets do well to use the forum in our interactions and growing a lively community.

In #752, @David405 writes:

Project #662 has been completed but no rewards has been awarded to it since the votes of the participants carries no weight ...

In our May 23 discussion of #716, @lapin7 and @Ojimadu were identified as supporters in this area.
#716 (comment) . I see @Ojimadu put in one vote; perhaps he's not done? I don't see any attempt to reach out to @lapin7 .

Bug report: When I try to login with Twitter the forum app says:
"Callback URL not approved for this client application. Approved callback URLs can be adjusted in your application settings".
Googling the error message returns possible fixes:

Guys,

I struggle to vote for a budget here. The issue calls for $4.000 budget, but this seems rather high to me. As far as I can tell, it's a Vanilla Forums installation, with 3 active users: @nonnykul @David405 and @azazime . That's not really a 'community' yet.

A few other things that make budget voting harder:

  1. Previous voters seem to agree that the work is 50% done, thus $2000 is justified. In the Issue, all tasks are ticked off. What's up with that?

  2. Vanilla Forums offers plans starting at $599/month. How are we planning to sustain this project?

  3. There is no activity on the forum, except for the above 3 users (who are the creators).

  4. To me it's not obvious why these discussions couldn't take place in more generic RChain places, like Discord or here on Github, or on Telegram or 10+ other platforms. In other words: I don't see a need for a forum to begin with, let alone a regionally-focused Forum.

TL;DR: For now I'll abstain from voting a budget, until these things are cleared up.

@pmoorman the issue deals with construction of an RChain Africa forum not growing the forum. #591 deals with the on boarding process. Currently the forum has 11 users which is a significant growth. But there is no "engaging" contents due to some hindering factors that eg RChain Africa is not yet fully established and are still yet to hold their first physical meetup.
I feel this forum would be a better place to engage and educate new rchain Africa users because they would have a sense of entitlement.

@pmoorman the budget for this work is for that which is already done, I can't vote a budget until the Marketing lead ( @pmoorman ) gives a suggestion, You may not be in support of the work but I believe the participants here deserve a reward for at least making an effort, What do you think @pmoorman ?

Concerning the regional marketing efforts, I think I am now clear with your position but not all of regional marketing strategies are ineffective, for example, having work groups, study groups, regional meetups have all proven to be effective strategies

Guys to clear this up:

I can't vote a budget until the Marketing lead ( @pmoorman ) gives a suggestion,

You don't need to wait for a marketing guide (me, in this case) to approve of the work. You can ask me to approve it, but if I don't want to (as in this case), then feel free to reach out to any of the 45 other people in the trust metric system.

Above I have outlined 4 concerns that I haven't seen answered.

@David405 furthermore said:

Concerning the regional marketing efforts, I think I am now clear with your position but not all of regional marketing strategies are ineffective, for example, having work groups, study groups, regional meetups have all proven to be effective strategies

(emphasis mine)

I'm suggesting we'll open an issue to produce a top-level strategy regarding regional efforts / translation / localisation. I've spoken about this with others also, including @allancto (who raised the same concerns).

Once this pay period completes, I'll create that issue, and we can discuss it there in one central place.

Aha, I am just getting to see @kitblake earlier complaint, I wonder how I could have missed that, l was sure the twitter sign in worked during testing procedures, I think Twitter security updates requires I register the Application, I have done that, so check back in a few days from now @kitblake @entropee

Some implementation points:

  • The https://rchain.africa site is a login screen.
  • The forum is not open to the public for reading.
  • The Twitter login doesn't yet work.
  • Afaik, only 7 people have joined the forum and they're already onboard bounty system participants.
  • ...there are more problems.

Some marketing points:

  • As far as we know, running regional forums doesn't align with the RChain marketing plan. It would be preferable that interested users join the official channels, like Telegram and Discord, and hold their discussions there.
  • Registering "rchain.continent" URLs is not an objective of the marketing strategy.
  • So far this issue doesn't have any reach. Of course that could change over time.

Given the above, we also would not want to contribute to the maintenance costs of the forum.

The same goes for the URL. But we have 11 months to think about it before it comes up for renewal.

It's clear that people invested entimo (energy time and money) in getting the forum up and running. A $2000 budget seems way over the top, but covering costs for good intentions is reasonable.

Let me confer with the other guides. One could argue that, since it was posted on May 5th, this issue has been caught in the bounty system evolution flux. There are several issues like this, which wouldn't get a go in June, but weren't addressed in May.
