The mod site reads that I shouldn't need any external guides though I have really no clue how to begin and what I want to achieve. aka for now it doesn't feel inuitive. (or I didn't find the entry point to self-explaining gameplay)

The mod starts when you kill a drowned zombie

What exactly is supposed to happen then, because I've killed a bunch, and no chat messages (as stated on the Curse site)?

the first time you should get a chat message which basically tella you to put paper in your inventory before killing another

Not getting the message, nor does beating one to death with a piece of paper yield any results whatsoever. I do have other mods installed, and through Roughly Enough Items I can see items and blocks, but half of them don't have a recipe and for the other half the only real obstacle is not being able to create that magical crafting / infusing table thing. Tried both Beta 5 & 4, same result. Things just don't get triggered, assuming they're registered properly. When only this one installed, the game just crashes.

Now, I'll be honest and say that this is the first time for me using Fabric, but from what it appears to me it doesn't do half the stuff that Forge did, like listing the installed mods in-game, check for conflicts between mods, most stuff that's great for the users, but not the authors per se. It think I'm going to drop back a generation Minecraft so I can use Forge and some decent mods to boot.

Don't be discouraged because of this though, it looks interesting and fun. Don't let my problems stand in your way ;-)

@RolanDecoy For me everything works. Regarding the "it doesn't do have the stuff that Forge did", that's the keypoint for it. That's why there is such a fast release cycle. And to be honest I'm blown how well Fabric works right now (remember, 1.14 is the first MC version where Fabric was released). For a Mod Menu, try ModMenu
And regarding the compatibility check from forge, I'm not exactly sure what you mean and where Forge actually covered the compatibility more than saying that you miss some mods. Fabric does that aswell. For an Ore Dictionary use Cotton Resources :)
