Might be worth a look at trying to use
https://github.com/ajmfulcher/fpm-maven-plugin
for packaging, to help out solaris and debian users.

or http://mojo.codehaus.org/unix/ also supports rpm/deb/pkg

I've looked at the unix one before, but it hasn't been touched since the last alpha release in 2013 and seemed broken when I fiddled with it.

FPM looks better though.

Last time we checked, FPM supports only legacy solaris pkgs and not Solaris11 IPS packages. I can't see anything contrary to that on https://github.com/jordansissel/fpm.

I'm looking at this again to build deb packages, might have a proposal soon.
