I think this is a good idea, since all the uni courses are completely restricted to java. Besides scripts will be relatively easier to learn and give them an alternative. We could also have a course using ssh and running shell scripts on the remote machine |

Lets schedule a bash+git meeting the same way as 'Scientific coding' is scheduled. Btw, there we are going to look into python, numpy and friends. It should be very useful for 3rd year students who are about to start their project. |

I think this workshop should be run by students (for students). I'm happy to help making the materials for it. |
We can have a number of meeting dedicated to bash, git and python/r trough the year. As materials we can reuse software carpentry tutorials.
