Consider using the Docker/Podman API instead of subprocess? #774

Hi! Docker has a REST API which is Podman also supports.
Using the API would remove an unnecessary dependency on the CLI.

Here are some examples of the official SDK.

Its also possible to use request/httpx/native python is that is preferred?

Would a PR with this improvement we of interest? :)
