Alerts silenced for a lengthy period of time in AlertManager may indicate that the alert is no longer valuable or unduly ignored.

Consider adding a global configuration parameter to Alertmanager that would restrict the maximum duration of a silence.

Can you tell us more about your intended use case? What would stop someone from just re-creating the same silence to get around the limit?
