### How it works
- uses BiBiGrid to initialize and terminate clusters
- uses Openstack4J / SWIFT to create and delete storage containers
- uses Singularity REST API to deploy and monitor tasks
### Setting up images on your Openstack cluster
Hubspot Singularity is build on top of the Apache Mesos framework. To effectively execute tasks,
all you have to do is run the Singularity service on your configured Mesos master and then use
the Singularity REST API or web interface.
Master image requirements:
- Mesos (& Zookeeper)
- Java 8 (i.e. OpenJDK) or higher
Then just place the SingularityService-0.6.1.jar and singularity-config.yaml within the home
directory (~/). The application will run the JAR after the instance has been initialized.
Slave image requirements:
- Mesos
- python-swiftclient (for tasks implemented by the application)
- ncbi-blast+ (for tasks implemented by the application)
### How to use the application
Start the application by running the executable JAR file. The GUI will show up.
On the "Authentification" tab, enter your valid openstack credentials.
On the "Cluster Setup" tab, specify your master and slave options and select the input file.
The only yet implemented task is to perform a BLASTP, so this should be a file containing
one or multiple BLASTP queries.
The application will try to import a "openstack.properties" file from within the working directory.
If no such file is found, default properties will be used but can be overwritten at any time by
using the "Import Properties" button.
Notice: Selecting "Use Defaults" will keep any existing default properties.
Notice: The default porperties are stored within the application and can be outdated. Therefore
you should always import your own properties. Use the according option in the GUI or place your
openstack.properties file within the actual working directory to import it automatically.
### TODO:
Most available options for the GUI are hardcoded. Though the application does not rely
on the manual selection of properties (due to the import functionality), option choices
should be created dynamically using openstack4j (instance flavors, network, ...) by getting
them after authentification.
The BLASTP is currently the default task to be executed. On implementation of further
tasks, an option for selecting the according tasks has to be created internally and
within the GUI. Therefore, an interface (edu.unibi.cluster.tasks.ITasks) is already
present.
