Data streaming via copy

Hey guys! Could anyone breakdown how postgresjs implements data streaming for the copy command? I understand we call readable() on the query but what does that function actually do? I'm specifically interested in how the data chunking works and what is called on the postgres server to chunk said data. Thanks!
