Opening the thread mostly to document my findings on "how to add a "add to calendar" link". Not really planning for next meeting already.
After last (January) event, someone asked if I had a link to add the event to a calendar and I did not. So I wondered what tool I could use to do such a simple thing. I google a bit but not finding anything I turned to mastodon and asked around. I received a couple of pretty quick and relevant answers and I was happy to find out about https://joinmobilizon.org/ which is basically the fediverse equivalent of meetup and among other things it supports the add to calendar event. I think it is pretty cool but still an overkill for my simple use case.
Later I noticed that many services actually use https://www.addevent.com/ service to add to calendar (you might not even notice they use it if you do not look at the link in your button). Armed with this knowledge I had a better search term: "alternative to addevent.com" and I found out about https://calndr.link/ which seems like a pretty cool service! There is also a blog post about it: https://dev.to/atymic/building-calndr-a-free-addevent-alternative-54h
Here is an example of usage for a potential nimib speaking event (I picked a fictional date and time). Landing page: https://calndr.link/event/3xp9Li87XU
But you can have also direct link for your calendar:
Apple • Google • Office 365 • Outlook Web • Outlook • Yahoo
and when you create an event you even have your secret link to edit the event (users will not get the notification though). Sharing here since this is only a test example: https://calndr.link/events/3xp9Li87XU?secret=Qso8YPadeLblzCMf6aqX8gDjrmEoF5ss4poK
...and then I though there should just be a librar, possibly open source to do this and indeed a github search "add to calendar" provided the following two alternatives:
