Recently, a paper was published that looked at statistical associations between distribution and environmental conditions such as temperature and oxygen with a focus on sablefish. With a conclusion of "the model reliably estimated an overall metabolic index threshold effect, and provided a better fit to sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) spatial distribution than previously used models. This mechanistic approach may improve predictions of species distribution, even in novel environmental conditions." @ericward-noaa might be able to get the oxygen and temperature data if you want to include this in the SDM 🤷 for sablefish.

Happy to chat about this more, and provide any data. There's all this paper that applied the metabolic index to sablefish. A couple challenges are (1) model performance in deeper water, and (2) what model we should use to generate temp / o2 from
