Accessible toggle-style checkbox question

Hey Chris,

This is going to seem totally out of left field, but I found a link to a codepen you wrote for a toggle/checkbox.

I couldn't find anyway to communicate through codepen, so followed the link to your portfolio and then to your github to finally ask this question, so with all that out of the way...

I can't seem to figure out for the life of me why this toggle always renders on top of everything else, I don't have a code example to share a repro, but thought i'd ask if you might have an idea why. I've tried even fiddling with the z-index and it doesn't matter, no matter what the toggle renders overtop of menus I open. Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.
