Call Method when a tab item is clicked

When a tab is clicked, I need to call a browser-based JavaScript function.
How do I listen for tabs being clicked upon ?
The tabs are created via HTML+CSS and not via JavaScript.
Is this still possible ? (to trigger a call on tab item clicked) ?
