Why Post Freely?

it would be good to have a description of why Post Freely exists, even if just as an overview. What distinguishes it from Write Freely?

From a thread on WF discussion forum I know one of the added features is extended markdown rendering, but which one exactly? and can any other parser be used, such as Markdeep or Common Mark?

I understand there are mght be other additions or fixes as well. What are those?

For someone coming from Write As or Write Freely, what's attractive, and what is a possible gotcha? What about compatility?

Where does the locus of PF conversation occur? (here, mastodon #postfreely hashtag, ...)

What kind of fork is this? For example some forks intend to follow upstream and slip in all their wanted changes here and there, while other forks are "yeah, good starting point, but we're going in a different direction, no looking back!".
