Something we haven't discussed but have been actively working on are reusable micro services. This is the idea of a collection of open source services built with Micro that anyone can run.
Rather than having hundreds of companies build unique versions of these in isolation we're doing it one one place. See https://github.com/micro/services for the code.
What's more. We're running these as a hosted offering on m3o.com. This is how we not only validate the reliability of the services but also go one step further and make it so no one has to do the hard work of building platforms again.
